After a week of all-nighters waiting for the car thieves to come back to Clovelly, they were finally caught at about 5am this morning.
The patroller on duty, hidden, saw what was probably the Fiat Palio we were looking for come into Clovelly. As per our plan, patrollers were alerted via our neighbourhood watch radios and we observed so as not to give ourselves away.
The thieves parked in their favourite parking spot in the middle section of Clovelly Road, and another neighbourhood watch member from monitored them as they scouted around, finally deciding on an Isuzu bakkie.
The police were alerted too and two vans drove in,blue lights off,and waited, concealed, more towards the entrance of Clovelly. The thieves fiddled in the engine of the Isuzu and as soon as they opened the door to the bakkie, police and patrollers moved in. The thieves fled down into a bushy area which was cordoned off by patrollers and police;a larger cordon was maintained in case they broke out,but their lucky streak had ended and both men were caught and their Fiat Palio impounded.
An enormous thank you to all those who lost sleep night after night. It is due to your efforts that these guys were caught. Another big thank you to everyone who responded this morning, from Clovelly NW and neighbouring NWs,and to the police for their fantastic co-operation and response.
As they were trying to steal an Isuzu bakkie,we are hopeful that they might be linked to the spate of Isuzu thefts as well as the Toyota Conquests.

Fantastic job guys,well done!
I was waiting cnr Winkle and Bethel listening to the hide and seek going on in the gardens. Glad they finally got caught, late nights, persistence, and dedication paid off. Glad to be apart of such a dedicated and organised NW.
Well done to all involved ! Just show that when we stick together we can make a huge difference.
