Hello from Clovelly Neighbourhood Watch!
Clovelly Neighbourhood Watch has been successfully operating since July 2007 and would like you to join us,your neighbours. Since we started, the crime rate in Clovelly has plummeted – where we used to have house break-ins at the same rate as other neighbourhoods,we’ve had very few criminal incidents since active patrolling got into full swing, and these have been relatively minor incidents. Even better than that, neighbourhood watches are discovering what fun it is to be part of a community and make new friends.
What does a neighbourhood watch do?
The main thing is to be neighbourly,to be observant and share information. As residents,we know what is normal in our neighbourhood. If there is something unusual,we tell our neighbours, the neighbourhood watch and the police. That’s all you need to do. If you’d like to join our daily patrols, you would be more than welcome. Almost 80 of our members patrol the neighbourhood, each usually doing two hours once a month. You may have noticed us in our blue bibs walking or cycling,or in our cars with the yellow “Clovelly Neighbourhood Watch” decals on the side.
We also work closely with the local police and other neighbourhood watches to share information about crime and we have built a strong relationship with the Fish Hoek SAPS. Recently we have joined the growing Neighbourhood Watch radio network which links Neighbourhood Watches from Kommetjie to Clovelly via a common radio frequency. These radios can be used for personal safety and co-ordinating resources against crime.
How do you join?
